This is Going to be an Epic Chapter – Let’s Save Culmination Brewing – an Iconic Portland, Oregon Brewery

On Thursday Aug 3, 2023, an article came out in the Oregonian about Culmination Brewing – https://www.oregonlive.com/beer/2023/08/culmination-brewing-once-a-portland-rising-star-to-close-as-costs-pandemic-take-toll.html

This article said things like:

“Culmination Brewing, one of Portland’s rising stars and best breweries just a few years ago, is likely to close within months”

“They are circling the drain,”

“There’s no way out of this.”

My Connection To Culmination

Back in 2015 and 2016 I helped launched Culmination. I did the branding, marketing, and events. The first event I ever did at Culmination was Dec 31, 2014 – “Celebrate New Years Eve at our unopened, unfinished, Portland brewery!”

We had more than 8o people attend that event and it’s a great story for another time.

In 2016 we won best new brewery at the Oregon Beer Awards

As many of you know – also in 2016 I lost my 17-year son Zayne Steven Shomler. That loss changed the trajectory of my life, and I ended up stepping away from Culmination near the end of 2016.

Asked to Come Back to Try to Save Culmination

After the aforementioned Aug 3, 2023, Oregonian article about Culmination came out on I was asked by the Culmination board to come back to Culmination to run it and try to save it.

My first day back at Culmination was Wednesday Aug 9 2023 and for those who are curious my title is General Manager.
