Owning What You Really Want

.

“I haven’t owned up to what I really want in life”

.

One of my *Tookish Hearted Friends recently shared that heartbreaking statement with me and I totally understand where they were coming from.

.*To know more about what it means to be Tookish Hearted see this article here – https://www.stevenshomler.com/what-does-it-mean-to-be-tookish-hearted/

What Do I Really Want?

.

It can very tough to really own and embrace what we actually want. At least that is what I have found to be true in my journey.

I can think of at least two separate instances where I made a significant life choice that would have been different if I had owned and embraced what I really wanted in life.

The good news for the friend of mine who made that gut wrenching statement above is that they had the immense courage to utter those words and bring them into the light of day.

I am delighted to report that since that statement was made, they have taken a handful of doable steps to pursue what they really want in life.

I haven’t owned up to what I really want in life

Have The Courage to be Honest With Yourself

.

Something powerful happens when we have the courage to be honest with ourselves and acknowledge and own what we truly want in life.

In my own journey for the past couple of months I have been reflecting on what it is that I really actually want for my life over the next few years.

Truth be told –  this has been a tough assignment that has put me in touch with a number of defective stories I carry in my heart that I need to rewrite.

Owning our desires can be a difficult thing to do. That being said – I highly encourage you to do it – you are so worth it.

If reading this article has helped you realize that you need to own what it is that you really want in life – I encourage you to take the time and do that sacred inner work.

LifeStory Alchemy Wisdom from The Vital Spark

.

Lastly – I have been reading The Vital Spark by Lisa Marchiano LCSW NCPsyA and if you are in the process of changing your life for the better, I encourage you to check it out. Lots of really good LifeStory Alchemy wisdom in this book.

Chapter 5 of The Vital Spark – Desire: Embracing Life’s Fire has some wonderful insights about owning what you want.

.

Here is a handful of powerful salient quotes from Chapter 5:

.

“In the most primal sense, desire connects us with life”

“The heart’s desire is always a thing of spiritual significance”

“Seeking our heart’s desire is always transgressive. To do so we must defy conventional dictates, disappoint parent’s wishes, and contend with the inner and outer voices that insist that we stay put and meet the demands and expectations that others have placed on us.”

“When we investigate what stands between us and claiming our heart’s desire, the answer is often shame. We are ashamed to admit what we long for because it seems too audacious of us to want it”

.

The last quote is the one that I wish I had 14 years ago. If I am being honest with myself, who I was then may not have been ready to process such potent 100-proof life change wisdom.

If you are pursuing life change, know that I am pulling for you!

Cheers,
