The 4th Good Life Element – Pathos Pyro (Heart Fire) – Battle for your Dream
There are 3 primary elements to The Good Life.
Enjoy Life, Pursue Wholerness and Make a Difference.
I’m deeply convicted that if you have these 3 elements well integrated into your journey, you will enjoy The Good Life…as long as you do not suffer from Pathos Pyro, a heart fire.
Let me explain.
Some of us have a dream to pursue. A dream that does not go away. Ever.
Some people have a dream that both excites them and causes them ache because that dream is not yet fulfilled. In the book of Proverbs it says, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.”
Some of you reading this have no idea what I am talking about, and some of you know exactly what I am referring to.
Some of us have an unfulfilled dream that burns in our hearts like a fire. It smolders and never seems to go out.
I call this a Pathos Pyro. a Heart Fire.
If you have an unfulfilled dream smoldering in your heart – a book you need to write, music you need to record, a pilot’s license you have to get, a degree to finally complete, a business to build – you are one of the rare people who will never truly enjoy The Good Life until you Battle for your Dream.
I cannot promise you that if you do battle for your dream, it will come true, however, I can promise that if you don’t honestly battle for it, it will always haunt you. Heart Fires never go away, they just smolder and alternately inspire you and cause you ache.
If I have described your journey, if this concept resonates deeply into your being, for your own sake, battle for your dream. Give that smoldering fire a fair and honest chance at burning brightly.
I have a Pathos Pyro a Heart Fire, and I am battling for my dreams. It feels so good to be engaged in the battle. Al, a dear friend of mine who has done the hard work of battling for his dream, talks about those who have the smoke of battle coming off of them.
When you are battling for your dream and the smoke of battle is emanating off of you, it is a wonderful scent.
Let me tell you some of my Pathos Pyro story. Hopefully, it will inspire you to pursue and clarify your dream.
Pay The Price – Live the Dream
To accomplish my dreams, I will have to pay the price that anyone who achieves, most pay.
You will never live your dreams without paying the price. First figure out what your dreams are and then figure out what the the price is that you will have to pay to see your dreams come true.
I am striving to to become a successful speaker and an author so that I can see the following three dreams come true in my life- I want a better life for my family, I want the freedom to go first class, and I want to see the beaches of the world.
#1 A Better Life for my Family
Sadly, For years when I would think about my dreams, I thought about things other than seeing my family have a better life. Don’t get me wrong I always assumed that if my dreams came true that my family would have a better life. However there was a time that my family having a better life was not the first thing on my heart. It pains me to admit this. I share this ugly personal truth because I have found that many people who battle for their dreams, face a similar situation.
I am delighted that these days, my family is the first things on my heart when it comes to my dreams.
I am battling for my dreams so that my family will have a better life.
Freedom to go First Class.
For as long as I can remember, I have longed to have the financial resources to be able to have the Freedom to go First Class.
In 2009 I was the #4 wholesale mortgage Account Executive in the country at Met Life Wholesale, and I got a very small taste of what it is like to have the freedom to live a first class lifestyle. I liked it, and I am in the hunt to have the freedom to live a first class lifestyle.
I have written down exactly what a first class lifestyle looks like to me, based on the values and desires that my wife and I have. I understand that what a first class lifestyle looks like to me might be different that it would look like to you.
Two things in particular excite me about having the resources available to me that would make a first class lifestyle possible – #1 the ability to make a bigger difference, and #2 my “wish list”.
A First Class Lifestyle Would Allow me to Make a Bigger Difference.
I make a difference right now in my daily life and feel great about the ways I do that. If you read my bio page, a number of the activities and projects that I reference there are part and parcel with me making a difference.
I often think of ways I could make a bigger difference if I had additional resources at my disposal. When I have what I call the freedom to go first class, I will also have the freedom to use those same resources to make a bigger difference.
A First Class Lifestyle Would Allow me to Pursue the Items on my Wish List
When I was a kid in the 70′s, every December we would get a Sear’s Wish Book and in the back was the toys. It was so much fun to think about which toys I would get if I could. I would sit at the table with the Wish Book open and make a wish list with things on it like Star Wars toys or Micronauts (cool toys based on a cool comic book).
Today I have a similar wish list. I have on it things like: Taking my family to the Boundary Water Canoe Area in Northern MN; Taking my wife and good friends of ours Bob and Ann to Mackinac Island in Michigan at Christmas time and staying at the Grand Hotel; Going on a special trip to the Caribbean with Al and Kathy (other good friends); Taking Jerry and Ketty on a cruise; Being able to travel through the Greek Islands; Going back to Phillipi in Greece-with my kids this time. Going to a location that is mentioned in the Bible, gives you a whole different perspective. I want to share that experience with my kids. I could go on…hopefully, you get the picture. You might want yo write your own wish list.
#3 See The Beaches of the World
When I was 16 the idea of seeing the beaches of the world was planted in my head by a motivational speaker/success teacher named Jack.
In Jr High and High School, every Friday during the last quarter of the school year we would take field trips from Lake Elsinore, CA over the Ortega Highway to Laguna Beach. Such memories – the smell of sunscreen, Danny Joy’s boom box, Pastor Bower reading to us out of Sports Illustrated and we laid out on the sand, shyly following Christine and Dawn down to the water to play in the waves (I had a crush on Christine back then), the sound of the waves. etc.
I love the beach. I long to be able to go see the beaches of the world. I want to see beaches in the Caribbean, Fiji, the Seychelles, Hawaii, Greece, etc. and someday soon – I will.
Dreams Do Come True
Some of you may scoff at the idea of battling to see dreams come true, however, I know that dreams come true.
I have already had the pleasure of doing a few of the things on my wish list – Last year (May 2009) I took my Family to Disneyland, and we stayed at the Grand Californian Hotel and had the kind of vacation at Disneyland that I always wanted to have when I was a kid growing up in Southern California. On this trip, my kids also got to eat the best hamburgers there are (In and Out), see a real beach (Laguna Beach), and go out in a catamaran with Captain Dave and see literally hundreds of dolphins swimming around our boat.
I was also able to take my wife to South Beach Miami and to the Caribbean earlier this year (2010). We had a blast, and I look forward to once again being in a position to take her to places like that.
I have a Pathos Pyro, a heart fire, a dream to fulfill, and I am battling for it.
If you have a Pathos Pyro smoldering in your heart, I highly encourage you to Battle for Your Dream! Who knows, maybe some day I will see you on the beaches of the world!
